Death and appointed time (Ajal), as one of the certain and inescapable realities of human life, are repeatedly emphasized in the Holy Quran and are introduced as an inevitable law in the system of creation. One of the key characteristics of ajal is its necessity and inevitability for all beings - especially humans. Investigating this feature not only clarifies the purposeful nature of creation but also plays a crucial role in human moral and spiritual development. The main question of this research is: What is the reason behind the necessity and inevitability of ajal for all creatures, particularly human beings, and how does this necessity contribute to understanding the philosophy of creation and human training? This study, using a descriptive-analytical method, examines the Quranic verses related to ajal and the corresponding interpretive narrations. The findings indicate that the wisdom behind the determination of ajal, from the perspective of the Quran and traditions, revolves around two central themes: (1) the inherent limitation of the worldly life in fulfilling the ultimate perfection of the human being, and (2) the impossibility of complete realization of reward and punishment in this world. In addition to confirming these two themes, the interpretive narrations point to various moral and educational aspects, such as fostering self-vigilance, eliminating heedlessness, giving meaning to human actions, and strengthening the virtue of patience in the face of afflictions. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative approach to Quranic and hadith-based analysis, with a specific emphasis on the educational and moral dimensions of ajal - an area that has received limited attention so far.
