Al-Ṣaḥīfa al-Sajjādiyya, a seminal devotional work attributed to Imam ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon him), holds a revered position among Shiʿi scholars and is often referred to as “the sister of the Qur’an,” “the Gospel of the Ahl al-Bayt,” and “the Psalms of the Household of Muhammad.” This collection of supplications offers a profound spiritual and theological foundation for engaging with God. Despite its theological and exegetical depth, al-Ṣaḥīfa al-Sajjādiyya has not yet been sufficiently utilized in Qur’anic interpretation. This study seeks to demonstrate the intimate relationship between the Qur’an and the Ṣaḥīfa by first examining Supplication Twenty-One, which contains allusions to ten distinct Qur’anic verses. It then explores the role of the Ṣaḥīfa in elucidating Qur’anic vocabulary, meanings, referents, and in addressing exegetical challenges. Subsequently, the paper evaluates four key commentaries: Riyāḍ al-Sālikīn, Nūr al-Anwār, Fī Ẓilāl al-Ṣaḥīfa al-Sajjādiyya, and ʿAllāma Majlisī’s Sharḥ al-Ṣaḥīfa al-Sajjādiyya, analyzing the ways in which they reflect Qur’anic interpretation through the lens of Imam al-Sajjād’s prayers. A comparative assessment of these works highlights the varied exegetical approaches to invoking Qur’anic verses within the supplications. The exegetical content found in six selected supplications (the first, fourth, fifth, seventeenth, twentieth, and twenty-fifth) shows that most commentators emphasize conceptual clarification of the verses; notably, Nūr al-Anwār focuses on referential specification (taʿyīn al-miṣdāq), while Riyāḍ al-Sālikīn engages in resolving interpretive difficulties (ḥall al-ishkālāt al-tafsīriyya).
